Howard Lee first picked up a pair of drumsticks when he was 9, and since then he has studied with Márcio Bahia , Alan Browne, David Jones, Colin Hoorweg, Edu Ribeiro, John Riley and Johnny Vidacovich in Australia, U.S.A. & Brazil.
He graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) from the Australian National University and since that time he has performed with Dale Barlow, Jacqueline Gawler, Glenn Cannon, Martin Breeze, Ray Beadle and Sérgio Brandão at various venues in China, Australia and Brazil.
From 2003-2004 he undertook a 14 month trip to South America through Argentina & Brazil. Cities included Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador, Belo Horizonte and Buenos Aires to study Brazilian music and source for the best musicians from these cities for his company Freelance United Music.
In addition to his work as a performer, as of 2009 he has taken on the role of a music producer with Brazilian bassist Sérgio Brandão in producing the world’s first ever-authentic Brazilian album sung in Chinese & English.
Artists on the album include Grammy award winners Jorge Vercilo, Marco Brito, Armando Marçal as well as Evandro Mesquita, Marco Lobo, Tia Surica, William Barton and 2 time ARIA nominee Jacqueline Gawler.
Album to be released in late 2010.
